This year Aberdeen Art Gallery is the only UK venue to host the most prestigious portrait painting competition in the world. The BP Portrait represents the very best in contemporary portrait painting. With a first prize of £35,000 and a total prize fund of £74,000, the Award is aimed at encouraging artists to focus upon and develop portraiture in their work.

See works by prize winners Jiab Prachakul, Sergey Svetlakov and Michael Youds alongside over 40 other outstanding works of portraiture. This year’s catalogue features an essay by Madeline Ward, our Lead Curator of Art, Aberdeen Art Gallery.

A fixture at the National Portrait Gallery, London for 40 years – 30 of which have been sponsored by BP - the BP Portrait Award makes a welcome return to Aberdeen Art Gallery for the first time since xxx. The exhibition continues to be an unmissable highlight in the annual art calendar.
